IPOH: Many restaurants and coffee shops here are closed on Wednesday (March 18) as the movement control order (MCO) comes into effect.

Mohd Nihmathullah Syed Mustaffa, manager of the famous nasi kandar stall in Yong Suan coffee shop on Jalan Yang Kalsom, said there were very few orders compared to regular days.Nithmathullah also said he was finding it very difficult to purchase face masks for his workers as all pharmacies had run out of supply."I hope the authorities concerned, like the Health Ministry, will help to source face masks for food operators, ” he added.

A woman selling char koey teow at a coffeeshop in Ipoh’s Old Town was frustrated as she did not manage to sell even one packet of noodles all morning. Business is usually very brisk. “There are no people coming to pack food, and I wonder how I am going to make money for the remaining days."I have stock up fresh ingredients for the dish, but if no one is coming, what am I going to do with all the items?” she asked.

A drive around the city area saw many coffeeshops, restaurants, and other businesses with their shutters down.
