Two men escape jail terms over the 'distressing' death of a worker crushed by a forklift at a Brisbane wrecking yard, in the first convictions under state's new industrial manslaughter laws.

Two men have been handed suspended jail terms over the death of a worker at a Brisbane wrecking yard in the first prosecution under Queensland's new industrial manslaughter laws.It heard Karimi suggested to Mr Willis's family his death was his own faultBarry James Willis, 58, was loading tyres at Brisbane Auto Recycling at Rocklea in May 2019 when he was crushed between a reversing forklift and a truck.

The court heard it took several days for the Willis family to gain access to the CCTV footage and learn the truth. The court heard Brisbane Auto Recycling had no safety systems in place at the time of the incident — instead, workers were verbally told to "look after themselves". The court heard the company had public liability and business insurance but no WorkCover, and was behind in superannuation payments for workers.

So WHY did they avoid jail ? No point paying lip service to justice it has to be seen to be administered.
