Do whatever you need to do to keep yourself from looking at your investments right now, says SallieKrawcheck of Ellevest

, a former Wall Street CFO at Citi and now CEO of investing app Ellevest, says keeping with your current investment plan is essential, even in times like these.

In the 120 years since 1900, she says, "there was World War I. There was World War I, there was the Spanish flu pandemic. There was inflation, there was stagflation, there was the war in Vietnam. There was a war in Korea. There were wars in the middle East and in Afghanistan, and there was 9/11. There was the oil price shock, Great Depression, the Great Recession, the internet bubble."

"Do whatever you need to do to keep yourself from looking [at your investments]," Krawcheck says. Some investors have made a conscious choice toduring the wild ups and downs. "I have not looked since this downturn began. Because the only that is going to happen is that it's going to upset me," she says.
