The aquifer — groundwater built up since the Ice Age and held in porous rock underground — has been depleted by thirsty megafarms,Jordahl said that border wall contractors — who drill deep wells to service their staging areas — have contributed to that depletion. It's a water supply that will not come back for millennia.
