China's ban on beef imports from several Australian abattoirs is costing the industry hundreds of millions of dollars and leaving eight meatworks waiting to resume trade.

More recently, sales to China from two Victorian meatworks where coronavirus was detected among abattoir staff were halted.

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud said he understood Chinese authorities would provide formal notification of the reason for the latest ban and that his department would investigate any compliance concerns in an attempt to resume trade as soon as possible.
