Actress Nathalie Emmanuel says the British industry is not welcoming to Black and mixed-race British talent. While speaking to Essence about her upcoming film F9, currently in theaters, the Game of…

“It’s not like we hadn’t been calling for this for many years, it was just falling on dead ears,” she said.

Emmanuel went on to acknowledge that representational barriers still exist in Hollywood for Black actors, but that “while it has its issues too, and while we’re still calling for necessary, important change” in the U.S., there being more possibilities across the pond for Black actors means Black Brits are going to continue to make the leap.

“I think, frankly, that the U.S. has so much more opportunity for people of all kinds of backgrounds, and all kinds of like people,” she said. “The industry is bigger so there’s more being made, and there’s kind of space for more people.” During the discussion, she also shared what it feels like to be a source of Black representation and an actor that young Black people can look to and see themselves in.

“It’s always really heartwarming when I have someone come up to me and they say, ‘Oh, my daughter, she hated her hair, she hated her skin, she hated these things about herself, and then she saw you. And then, she now like, loves herself,'” the actress recounted.Fast“It literally makes me want to cry because I was that little girl, so the fact that I can be that for someone else is lovely,” she said.

Who?

Do they think these opportunities just fell out of thin air? We fought for them. That's the only way you're going to get anything in a dominant white country. The answer is not to run to America, the answer is to stay in Britain & demand to be heard.

There's nothing stopping y'all from fighting to improve things in the UK. This is what 🇺🇸 Blacks did and continue to do in the US.

🏃🏾‍♂️🏃🏾‍♂️🏃🏾‍♂️🏃🏾‍♂️🏃🏾‍♂️ runners gon’ run and then offer excuses.

Britain please stop displacing your actors and actress. Native Black Americans are tired of Hollywood giving our roles to people who do not share our lineage.

Or Hollywood is just more attractive to actors in general than whatever we've got over here

Wait, how can that be?! I thought USA was a racist horrible place?

Considering what the Brits did to both the Celts and the Boers, this is not surprising.

It's so interesting how the under represented minorities are getting zero inclusion but the most represented minority want more than there fair share interesting enough she got her big break on the British soap Hollyoaks the irony isn't lost on me 😎

In other words, the money’s a lot better…

Eat it Brits. We got you Nathalie. Even though we’re apparently irremediably racist according to some dummies 😂

Didn't know she was British just assumed her British accent was an act, heard it on Fast and Furious then later on on GOT.

Career over! Better luck with Harvey
