The company said this week it will buy Sequence, a telehealth service that subscriber patients can use to connect with doctors who can prescribe weight loss and diabetes drugs.

Medical experts have said pairing the medications with a science-backed lifestyle modification program can help with long-term weight management.

“WeightWatchers’ nutrition and behavior-change program can provide the support needed to help people build livable healthy habits for the long term and manage the dietary-induced side effects often felt while taking chronic weight management medications, such as glucagon-like peptide-1s ,” Dr. Gary Foster, chief scientific officer of WeightWatchers, said.

WeightWatchers will pay $106 million to acquire Sequence. The move will give WeightWatchers a foothold into the growing prescription drug market for addressing obesity and other weight conditions. Adults with obesity are at increased risk for many other serious health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and poorer mental health,
