Pet owners are being warned to stay extra vigilant right now for dog thefts by criminals planning to force breed females for their vile Christmas puppy trade.

"It takes very little effort to lift a straying or lost dog and put it in a van. The crime is done and dusted in minutes and the dog and the thief are long gone in not time at all."
