Canberra massage business Foot and Thai and its owner have been fined nearly $1 million over their treatment of seven workers from the Philippines.
A Canberra massage business where workers were underpaid and told their families overseas would be killed if they complained has been fined nearly $1 million. "It involved the systematic exploitation of two groups of migrant workers over a period of four years," Justice Katzmann said. "… and they were unlikely to complain because their families, to whom they were devoted, lived in the Philippines and were dependent on their financial support," Justice Katzmann said.
"The overwhelming majority of the contravening conduct was deliberate and intentional, rather than inadvertent or careless," Justice Katzmann said.
