A neighbourhood bar in Stockport has been forced to make a major policy change after a number of diners failed to show up in one day, leading to a ‘detrimental and damaging’ impact on business.
“As a small business, we’ve always trusted that large reservations will be honoured, or if changes or cancellations occur, they will be communicated with us,” Inventery posted on Instagram. “However, this past Saturday, 50% of our tables were left empty as we had 3 large bookings not show up for their bookings with no contact.
“However, when large bookings don’t show, it really sets us back. We know our regular customers aren’t to blame for this, and we’d like to believe that the inconsideration shown on Saturday was due to ignorance and a lapse in judgement.” “We understand that plans can change, and we promise that if you contact us within 24 hours to cancel, we will gladly return your deposit, as this gives us a fighting chance to re-book the tables.
The move was praised by the bar’s followers, with people saying that they understood the decision in light of the recent experience - with some also encouraging the policy to be further rolled out.
