Ethiopian maids are being dumped onto the street by once wealthy Lebanese families who can no longer afford servants

An Ethiopian migrant domestic worker attends a parade in Beirut, to support the rights of migrant domestic workers in Lebanon and calling for a domestic workers union in Beirut May 3, 2015. REUTERS/Alia HajDozens of Ethiopian maids have been dumped outside the Ethiopian embassy in Beirut to sleep on the pavement by employers who can no longer afford to pay their salaries.

Lebanon is suffering an acute economic downturn due to the Covid-19 pandemic and months-long anti-government protests. The currency has lost 70% of its value since October, with unemployment rocketing, savings evaporating, and the prices of some essential goods has tripled. "All 34 Ethiopian domestic workers who are stuck in front of their embassy will be taken later Thursday to the Caritas shelter," said Huson Sayyah, the head of foreign workers at the Beirut charity Caritas, according to DPA news agency.

Meh humans.

It’s SAD!

The term used should be “domestic worker” as it gives value and meaning as a worker
