The bid comes amid one of Australia's worst ever energy crises, in which wholesale electricity prices have soared to record highs on surging coal and gas costs and there have been fears of widespread blackouts. "We need accelerated investment in new wind, solar, transmission and batteries, not more money for coal.
The idea has been formulated by the Victoria Energy Policy Centre , which has suggested a capacity market would be incapable of underpinning the investment needed for an electricity system running on renewable energy. The centre noted that private investors already had "considerable interest" in building new solar and wind plants as well as transmission lines.

I wish we could individually choose our energy supply. Greens could choose to get their energy from RE. and I could choose to get energy from the cheapest reliable source. After that the only job left for the greenies would be to convince people to buy expensive unreliable power
