Between a pandemic and critical staffing issues, the industry Mayo has been around for three decades has thrown significant challenges at him. While having the CEO's gratitude is nice, workers in the stressful health care profession often need more tangible support. That's what Mayo said his organization tries to do as it meets the needs of a fast-growing community.
Mayo said Baptist has been able deal with that in different ways, including hiring some of the traveling nurses who initially came to town to assist with shortages. Baptist is also working with local colleges to get more trained professionals, including a program for the recruitment of nursing students from the Philippines.
