That degree of proximity raises questions about a possible monopoly following the merger.

CBS 2's Lauren Victory dug into what this merger might mean for your weekly trip to the store.

If the current competitors became the same company across the street from each other, what happens to one of those stores? If the merger happens, the expectation is that 100 to 375"Spin-Cos" will pop up across the U.S. In areas with an abundance of Kroger-owed and Albertsons-owned properties."Because they have both, more in Chicago than probably other cities, this will most likely be an area where you will see this spun-off company having a bigger presence," said Harry Kraemer, a mergers and acquisitions expert at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Victory asked Kraemer about criticism from organizations like the National Grocers Association that said an Albertsons and Kroger merger would create,"unprecedented dominance over the nation's food supply chain."

Call it Julianos

So Koger’s bout Albertson’s

This deal makes me nervous and will result in more customers for Aldi’s, Trader Joe’s and Tony’s.

The customer will loose selection and verity of products and only be able to get Kroger brand shit

This will mean there is going to be two stores with online ordering apps that don't work well!

Hope they don’t destroy Jewel, like they did Mariano’s

You have to ask yourself who runs these companies if jewels was in such debt why the hell waste a fortune remodeling one of their busiest stores at Roosevelt and canal and ruining it turning customers away I haven't shopped there since they messed it up

Nothing good stores will close food selection will dwindle prices will go up it's not gonna be good No one should be allowed to have a monopoly on food

Don't know, I'll be at Aldi

Spinco is likely how the third company to be sold off is conceptually referred to in the merger agreement. It won’t literally be called spinco

Kroger’s selection is no good

add to my tweet NO MORE MONOPOLIES. meat producers have a monopoly look at meat prices! Start shopping independent stores, butcher shops, and farms.

kroger already owns Marianos folks!

block this merger!!! no more monopolies controlling our food supplies

Kroger steady gobbling up more market share.

King Soopers’ parent company Kroger and Albertsons to move forward with $25 billion mergerJUST IN: Kroger will acquire Albertsons for almost $25 billion. The parent company of King Soopers will merge with Albertsons in a move that will impact two of Colorado’s well-known retailers. I wish they would model after HEB. That's a different tier of grocery store. Soobertsons? Alberpers? Soosons? King Alberts? How is this good for the consumer?
