It’s not that Berry doesn’t value draft picks. He generally tries to keep his quantity of picks level, as he did in the Elijah Moore trade or in the Za’Darius Smith trade, getting as many picks back as he sends out.

but not straying too far from it. His most prominent trade involved giving up three first round picks, a third and a fourth for Deshaun Watson to fill the team’s gaping hole at quarterback.

The same goes for the NFL, especially as you weave into Days 2 and 3. Sure there might be a Dak Prescott or Russell Wilson waiting, but there are far more Cody Kesslers and Spergon Wynns. There’s a reason Tom Brady is the greatest outlier in draft history -- you’re not finding many Hall-of-Fame players in the sixth round.

“You’re probably a little bit more inclined to get, let’s say rotational players or high-level backups,” Berry said before the draft, continuing his answer on mid-round picks.
