Proposed new legislation means it is unlikely the Facebook parent company will have to pay the DPC’s €1.2 billion fine

If Facebook-parent Meta had a torrid time of it last week, it wasn’t much better for the Data Protection Commission , which issued the tech giant with a record €1.2 billion fine.

Coming in the week of the fifth anniversary of GDPR, the EU’s landmark data protection law, the DPC might have hoped that the penalty, along with an order that Meta must suspend data transfers to the US, would send out a strong signal ...
