When her baby was six months old, Dr Hemapriya Natesan found herself appalled by the sugary commercial baby food available. With her mother, she began to make batches of mullaikatiya sathumaavu, a traditional porridge for weaning infants in Tamil Nadu, southern India.

I'm culturally ignorant--what are the black markings on the baby?

Interesting story but I don’t think your sub has spent a lot of time around babies; the standfirst says this is about formula but the story is about baby food. Homemade formula would be a very different sort of story.
