Google's antitrust lawsuit will soon land in the hands of the Biden administration. Here's why experts think the new government may pursue it even more aggressively.

President-elect Joe Biden is set to inherit a Justice Department lawsuit filed against Google under Trump's administration.Experts believe Biden will carry the case forward and could pursue it even more aggressively, reflecting a shift in skepticism towards big tech across party lines.

But a change of guard is unlikely to hurt the lawsuit, which could be pursued even more aggressively under the new administration, academics and analysts say. Emboldened by this push for antitrust action on both sides of the aisle, several experts said they expect a Biden administration to pursue the Google suit and potentially expand it.

"It is always the case that the people in the government would like to have more time. The kind of friction you're seeing there I would characterize as more normal."The Obama administration had a close relationship with big tech, and with Google in particular. In 2016, "Trump kind of ran on a populist antitrust agenda, he railed against Amazon having a monopoly," said Sarah Miller, executive director of the American Economic Liberties Project, and a member of the Biden-Harris transition team for the Department of the Treasury. "But by and large, his enforcers have completely failed, from a neutral context, to enforce the law."
