How renewable energy could open the door for economic empowerment for women. Presented by ING_News

Insider: How can access to reliable and renewable energy help transform the lives of women in the region?Women have less access than men to jobs, decision-making, education, credit, and much more in Asia and the Pacific. Women are also more often involved in informal unpaid jobs that are seen as an extension of household duties. Climate change and the impact of COVID-19 have exacerbated this problem.

Ultimately, this empowerment is a step for women on the way toward fully realizing their human rights and bucking discriminatory social norms. We know that women in Asia often play a crucial role as consumers and"energy managers". The problem, however, is that women are rarely consulted in the formulation of renewable energy programmes and policies. Nor are they often consulted by the renewable energy service providers themselves. But women know what their communities need.
