More than 50,000 Victorian businesses will be eligible for cash payments as part of a new package targeting industries that were hit by the recent "circuit breaker" lockdown.Eligible small businesses and sole traders could receive $2,000 payments under one programVictoria's peak business body has welcomed the support, but an events group says more is neededover concerns the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport outbreak could worsen if it wasn't brought under control quickly.

Restaurants, florists, musicians, artists, wedding celebrants, the events sector and accommodation providers will be among the industries receiving support, Victorian Trade Minister Martin Pakula said. Businesses need to demonstrate they saw cancelled bookings between February 12 and February 17 to be eligible. Employment Minister Jaala Pulford said the measures were about providing tailored support to specific businesses affected by the lockdown."Mid-summer, great weather for weddings, Valentines Day, Lunar New Year, lots of occasions where people could be expecting to get together and do wonderful things with their loved ones."Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive Paul Guerra said last weekend was "devastating for business" and welcomed the support package.
