Traders at the Batu Gajah market want scheduled renovation works to be postponed to after Ramadan.

Those who spoke to StarMetro said they required more time to relocate to the temporary location as the Batu Gajah District Council had given them too short notice.“While I was getting ready to set up my stall, I saw a piece of paper on the floor.

“A day after receiving the notice, we saw a few tents set up for the designated temporary site,” she added.“Customers are not allowed to drive in and they have to park across the road in the morning. “I am happy with the council’s plan to renovate our premises, but it should be done at the right time,” she reiterated. She said MDBG had only provided 13 tents for 25 traders.“There are no electricity sockets provided and all traders will have to share one wash basin,” she said, adding that those being asked to move were the santan and fruit sellers. She also said it was impossible for her to relocate as the chiller she was using was built in with wiring attached to her stall.
