The Oireachtas Agriculture Committee will hear this evening that shiploads of peat are being imported into the country to supply growers of mushrooms, vegetables and flowers, at huge cost to the environment and ultimately to consumers

That is according to John Neenan, Chairperson of Growing Media Ireland, which represents the majority of horticultural peat and growing media producers in Ireland.

"When we were last in front of the committee, we warned that if action was not taken, Ireland would be reliant on imported peat of inferior quality, uncertain supply and negative environmental consequences. This has now been realised - horticultural growers now depend on imported peat," Mr Neenan will say at the committee.

Mr Neenan will say importing peat has a huge environmental impact, resulting in higher emissions than harvesting at home. She is calling for the Government to introduce a licensing system to allow the harvesting of enough peat to supply their growers' immediate needs.

Eamon bans the sale and eating of mushrooms ...except the little magic one's as they makes him conjure up great thoughts 🤡

We need to meet our Paris accord target EU emissions reduction targets and climate action bill passed in June 2021.....We have a tight carbon budget for next 8 years ...Need to restore bogs as carbon sinks ...This policy was agreed by all parties in the Dail...Not just Greens .

The gung-ho Green agenda is a clown world that will ultimately freeze, impoverish & starve the country.
