With many companies locked in both recruiting and retention wars for workers, data shows that organizations are leaving plenty of potential talent on the sidelines due to some lingering mistakes.

Despite the racial reckoning that took place across the country more than two years ago, data shows that equity for employees of color still lags behind their peers — especially those without lack four-year college degrees.

“At a time when the job market is particularly competitive and the cost of living is incredibly high, it is imperative that employers understand the crucial role that diversity, equity and inclusion play in building a more innovative and sustainable workforce,”, founder at Grads of Life, said in the report. “The report shows that there are still wide gaps in ensuring true equity through employment.

Maurice Jones, CEO of OneTen, a national initiative that aims to hire, promote and advance one million Black individuals who do not have a four-year degree into family-sustaining careers over the next 10 years, said one of the keys to advancing DEI is addressing barriers in the hiring and retention process. Degree requirements are one of those barriers.
