'I've felt a massive drop.' Vacation-rental owners across the U.S. are seeing bookings coming to a screeching halt—and not because renters have disappeared.

Lilly Lazarus at one of her six vacation rental homes in Houston. Like many short-term rental homeowners, her properties have recently received fewer bookings than usual.Sabrina Must is wondering where her vacation rental bookings have gone.

“I would have made upwards of $12,000 in a month in the summer,” says Ms. Must, 37, who for just over three years has short-term rented her two-bedroom, one-bathroom property in Encinitas, Calif., a beach town located about 25 miles north of San Diego. “Any weekend I wanted to be booked during the pandemic, I was booked. It was kind of like that prepandemic. Not as busy, but still busy.”

It’s a tough call. These folks have to provide better value than the hotel industry which can be difficult. Their financial choices are their problem, no sympathy

Specific to LA; I used to love the Airb&B places but now they want to much money, do not reveal their address and charge all these add on fees, it is now cheaper to stay in a hotel with a rooftop pool and loaded with amenities.

It's because tourists are so alienated by America's Rightwing fascism, extremism & violence, they have finally decided to stay away.

Used to do Airbnb a lot but the rental costs have increased so much, its more expensive than a hotel...
