G20 finance chiefs were unable to agree on a joint statement at the end of their two-day meeting due to differences over Russia's attack on Ukraine.

Instead, the chair country India published its own individual summary of the ministerial meeting in Bengaluru.

Russia and China, however, did not agree with the relevant passage and prevented a consensus on the final wording of a joint declaration on the meeting's outcome. Germany and France made it clear on Friday that they would not tolerate any wording that fell short of the statement made by the heads of state and government at the 2022 summit in Bali.

Normally, after a G20 meeting, joint assessments and goals are recorded in a communiqué. Since the Ukraine war, however, talks have repeatedly stalled because Russia is also a member of the group.Lindner had admonished China on Friday to do more for when it comes to possible debt relief.
