Abia State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has sealed over 15 business premises in the state for alleged failure to pay taxes to the revenue agency. The sealing of the business centres, according to the AIRS, was in line with the relevant tax laws of the state.

Supervising the actions, the Chairman of the Abia State Internal Revenue Service, Udochukwu Ogbonna, said that the owners of the affected business centres were owing between two and five years of unpaid taxes.

Ogbonna, who was represented by a senior staff of the agency, Mr Emeruwa Francis, during the sealing exercise, expressed dismay that some business owners refused to pay their taxes to the state government. He charged Abians and the business community to pay their taxes and to avoid evading taxes, doing so would enable the state government in execution of projects.
