This week, 11 WNBA and MLB players took part in a weeklong business immersion program in Los Angeles.

E-commerce platform Fanatics is helping professional athletes transition to life after the final buzzer — or pitch, or whistle.

"Having a vehicle to help these athletes is not only the right thing to do, but it's actually good for our business," said Orlando Ashford, chief people officer at Fanatics. "These people will be friends of Fanatics, which will help us in a lot of different ways." The pilot program launched about six years ago with a small number of NFL players. Now Fanatics is expanding the offering to more pro sports leagues. Eventually, Ashford said, the company plans to include retired players and offer a longer, six-month co-op-like experience.
