We watched 5 early-stage startups blending tech and real estate demo their ideas after graduating from a high-profile proptech accelerator

, the fifth that the real estate tech-focused venture fund has hosted at New York's Columbia University.

During his opening remarks, Metaprop co-founder and partner Zach Aarons said that MetaProp's own tally, not yet finalized, showed more than $10 billion in the category. That number is up 20 times from 2015, the year MetaProp was founded. Aarons clarified that MetaProp tired to remove as much "prop" from their tally, only including true technology businesses.

MetaProp's Zach Aarons followed up with his "State of the Union," a summary of the past and the future of proptech.Aarons said that he is "bullish" about the current state of proptech. He said that he expects to see $12 billion in proptech investment this year, up from $10 billion in 2019. He also highlighted ESG, and said that in this decade we will see truly carbon neutral development and 60 story tall buildings built with cross laminated timber, a processed wood material that is touted for sequestering carbon.

Ali Khaloo, the founder and CEO of Aren, presented his company's software that creates 3D models of bridges and other infrastructure to streamline the inspection process.Khaloo began his pitch by walking through the manual process behind mandatory bridge inspections. Khalid David, CEO and founder of TracFlo, spoke next. He came to the stage in a hard hat, and explained how his past in construction brought him to create a product that streamlines a process that was once one of his biggest headaches.TracFlo is software that tracks and communicates change orders in construction. Change orders are the process where a contractor proposes a potential change to a contract because construction is more expensive than previously expected.
