A 20-year-old who brought in half a million dollars in sneaker sales this year reveals why now is the best time to break into the exploding market and how to do it correctly

In addition to selling pairs to various buyers, the entrepreneur also runs his own exclusive sneaker advisory group called KickzMalik chat, which includes 250 members and costs $45 a month for admission.

"[The pandemic] gave people the time to really investigate the sneaker industry and basically see where they could make money," Malik said. This burst of extra time combined with new releases from Nike and more spending cash for many people via stimulus checks has helped spur a new wave of momentum in the industry, Malik said.

"It was probably the hardest few months of my life," Malik said, relating the stress that went into planning and running a full-fledged event as a kid. "I didn't realize that people don't buy tickets until the end."
