A group of huge employers like Walmart and Lowe's are trying to pick up where Haven left off and find ways to lower healthcare costs

It's still in the early days, but the PBGH project aims to seek out the best doctors for employers, with focuses on speciality and primary care, Mitchell said. She didn't say which PBGH members are directly involved, but some will help build out the program, per Business Insider's reporting. PBGH staff, meanwhile, will do the dirty work of understanding contracts and setting up the best care, she said.

To be sure, some companies in the group — Microsoft, Tesla, Lowe's — reached new heights, at least in terms of stock performance, in 2020. But Mitchell said that the cost pressures associated with the coronavirus pandemic are making the healthcare problem, and potential solutions, more urgent.
