Four alleged kidnappers have been arrested near Cape Town. The arrests follow the disappearance of a 31-year-old businessman in Du Noon, Milnerton.

Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, says the men, who are also facing charges of extortion, allegedly took the victim from his store in McClaren Drive by force and sped off in a getaway vehicle.“The suspects contacted the relatives [of the victim] demanding a ransom in exchange for the victim’s freedom. The investigating team pursued all information at their disposal in a bid to locate to victim.

Police also found and seized R6 million in cash which is believed to be ransom paid on other kidnapping cases, an unlicensed AK47 rifle, ammunition, one hijacked motor vehicle, a VW polo that was utilised in the kidnapping of the businessman, military grade signal jammers as well as various vehicle registration number plates.

All six were facing charges of kidnapping, extortion, money laundering, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.
