Assembly Bill 257, called the Fast Food Accountability and Standards Recovery Act, will establish a new regulatory body within the Department of Industrial Relations that will set new minimum standards on wages, working hours and other working conditions for fast-food workers. The 10-member council will operate until Jan. 1, 2029.

AB 257 defines a"fast food chain" as a group of restaurants with 100 or more locations nationally"that share a common brand, or that are characterized by standardized options for decor, marketing, packaging, products, and services."for California workers at those chains at $22 per hour in 2023.
