abc.net.au/news/south-australian-spirits-export-markets-grow-win-world-awards/102775684South Australia's spirits industry is eyeing off export opportunities following a boom that has seen the number of distillers in the state grow tenfold in the past decade.

Distillers South Australia president George Georgiadis said the industry sold most of its product domestically but the international reputation of locally made spirits was soaring. Mr Georgiadis, who is the managing director of the Never Never Distilling Company in McLaren Vale, said further growth was inevitable in the next few years.

"That plays really nicely into spirits like gin. Gin is kind of a blank slate that you can bring all sorts of flavours to. While some producers are already exporting products to the Asia Pacific, Mr Georgiadis said the US, China, Singapore and New Zealand were likely markets for expansion.Minister for Trade and Investment Nick Champion said the government expected spirits to be "a big employer of South Australians", hence the grant to identify potential for export growth.

Prohibition Gin chief executive Adam Carpenter said developing export markets had been hampered by COVID-19, but they were now working to expand that as Australian gin was in hot demand."If I'm in other places in the world, we're talking about South Australia as a place of provenance for amazing quality food and botanicals … and that's what we're using in our gins," he said.
