African National Congress veteran Mavuso Msimang says the worst mistake the ANC has ever made is to allow the registration of the uMkhonto weSizwe party under the name of its disbanded armed wing.Msimang says the ANC Veterans League welcomes the expulsion.
“The ANC is so negligent as to allow other people to take this organisation only under the banners of which people like Solomon Mahlangu and other heroes went to the gunnels and we fail to protect this thing. And you mention Chris Hani in the same breath as John Hlophe, how can it be that? That’s the worst thing and there is still a need to find a way of communicating to younger generations now that uMkhonto weSizwe is not this thing.
“The Veterans League welcomes the decision. It’s happy with the process that was followed and is very happy about the outcome. The fact that he even became elected as president is indicative of the calibre of the ANC members. This is a person who was elected to this position in 2007 after a court had found someone guilty and sentenced them to 15 years for bribing Jacob Zuma. We elected this person at a time when there were case headlines about him,” Msimang says.
