More than 150 British nationals and dependents left Beirut on a government chartered flight yesterday, the statement said. “To meet the demand for the charter flight on Wednesday, additional flights will depart from Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport from Thursday. The flights will continue for as long as the security situation allows,” it added.

Earlier, the United Nations Secretary-General told the Security Council that the raging fires in the Middle East were fast becoming an inferno. Antonio Guterres was briefing an emergency session of the Council that was initially called in response to Israel’s ground incursion into southern Lebanon and subsequently Iran’s decision to launch close to 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday night.
