Support poured in for owner Sam Balmbra following a tearful social media post

The owner of a street food business was brought to tears as the community rallied to support her after sharing a post on Facebook about the harsh realities of running her business solo. Sam Balmbra, who runs Akela Street Food in Great Harwood, poured her heart out on Facebook, sharing with her followers the hardships she has faced running the Queen Street-based business.

“I do hope things will take a turn for the better! I have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed…… well I have to laugh at something.” Her dad, James enjoyed cooking Indian cuisine and he did Indian banquets and weddings. She would post photos of her delicious dishes on social media and many admirers would encourage her in the comment section to open her own business.

“It is draining and worry keeps me up at night. The people of Great Harwood are really good and people have been so supportive.” She added: “The bills are fine for me, it is the cost of raw materials that have gone through the roof. People ask if I can open later and on Sundays but I don’t think they realise just how much work goes into the business.
