Cosatu's Melvin De Bruyn says the GNU has so far not worked in favour of the workers.

NUM members call new mining licenses to create jobs in South Africa during Cosatu's nationwide strike on October 7, 2024.The Congress of South African Trade Unions Western Cape Provincial Secretary, Melvin De Bruyn says the Government of National Unity has so far not worked in favour of the country’s workers.The labour federation says the protest action seeks to highlight high unemployment, rampant corruption and the escalating cost of living.

De Bruyn points to the boycott of the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill signing by Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube and other DA policy positions as evidence that the GNU is anti-worker rights in its orientation.
