Thanks to those major international tours and others, Australia’s live performance industry generated total ticket sales revenue of almost A$2.2 billion in 2018, an increase of 14.8% from 2017, according to the. It’s the first time the live performance sector has hit the A$2 billion milestone.
The rise in revenue was a result of a 5% gain in the total number of paid tickets in 2018, coupled with a 9.3% lift in the average ticket price to A$99.03 , the LPA reports. The “Contemporary Music” category, which covers rock, pop, EDM, country and hip-hop concerts, is the engine room for the live sector. During the reporting period, contemporary music posted the third highest growth in revenue and sixth highest growth in attendance amongst all categories, which include comedy, classical and musical theater.
