A California law taking effect today would require new light bulbs to produce 45 lumens per watt. That would remove almost all incandescent and halogen bulbs from store shelves. Two industry groups want courts to put a hold on the regulations. (KQEDnews)

The state energy commission says unless it hears from the courts, it will proceed as planned. The backdrop of the updated standards stretch back to the George W. Bush administration. In 2007, President Bush signed into law the, requiring lower energy use from"general service lamps" — loosely defined as general purpose light bulbs.

The act gave California and Nevada the right to implement standards earlier than other states. So, while the rest of the country switched fromincandescents between 2012-14, in California and Nevada made the switch in 2011-13. The act also dictated that the Department of Energy would set energy efficiency standards for"general service" bulbs to take effect January 1, 2020. If they didn't , the standard of 45 lumens per watt would go into effect.

Amid all of that, the Obama administration in 2017 expanded the scope of which bulbs would be considered"general service" to include 3-way incandescent bulbs, among others. The Trump administration rolled those back in September of this year.from the city of New York and the attorneys general of California, New York, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, and the District of Columbia.

KQEDnews California has become an experiment in socialism and complete anarchy.

KQEDnews Y

At least there's still some place in this country promoting scientific advancement. KQEDnews

KQEDnews Glad to see California working towards energy efficiency. The planet is dying and we need to concentrate on this.

KQEDnews Thank God our wise overlords make these decisions as to what’s best for us.

KQEDnews The point isn’t about light bulbs. It’s about big government. Considering liberty is what this country was founded upon, citizens should be able to buy whatever they want within reason.

KQEDnews Seems kinda bright for my disney bathroom night light

KQEDnews Interested to see how this will effect my industry. I see plenty of retrofits in my future.

KQEDnews Good for CA. To light industry stop being part of problem. PhilipsLightIND GELighting

KQEDnews Good. Make it more expensive and difficult for Cali denizens to source bulbs or retrofit to new. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving group.

KQEDnews The new bulbs make me look orange...

MorningEdition KQEDnews Homeless problem solved. 🙄

KQEDnews I'm in California - There aren't many incandescent bulbs left anyway and halogen are on clearance because retailers knew about this months ago. It's the way we've been moving gradually for years now. It's really not that big of a deal.

KQEDnews This is about the future of our children and their children. Not just whether it will be a pleasant future, but rather whether there will be a future. It’s an ugly truth, but a truth nonetheless.

KQEDnews Trump loves a good light to orange

KQEDnews I mean they could totally start a lawsuit or.... They could spend the same money to start producing LEDs.

KQEDnews Ignore the law. Californians, if you want incandescent or halogen bulbs, get them from out of state. This state government is exceeding its authority, and it should be defied.

KQEDnews I thought Trump was rolling all of these laws back?

KQEDnews 'But lead additives help my car run better! This is government overreach!' – the parents of these idiots claiming some hardship because of energy efficiency

KQEDnews Hence the coconut spewing on about lightbulbs to the press

KQEDnews For the last American citizen leaving California today ASAP please bring the American flag with you

KQEDnews So basically they are incapable of making modern light bulbs and they are suing to cry about it

KQEDnews Big Incandescent strikes again

KQEDnews And the darkness continues to gather in California, literally, in this case.

KQEDnews I suggest all people who actually care about what's going on in America check the laws on the books in the state you're living in. You'll be amazed at the antiquated laws still on books in every state, mostly slavelaws to control BlackPeople kept on books just in case... why?

KQEDnews 'Two industry groups want courts to put a hold on the regulations'. More money talks

KQEDnews funny how all these corps have money to pay for lawyers, etc.

KQEDnews Oh no, next I'll have to pull out my gas lighting & coal furnace. How dare they require efficiency & practical lighting.

KQEDnews I try for 100 lumens per watt. I get at least 80 lumens per watt.

KQEDnews So which California politician is getting their pockets lined by the LED business? 🤔

KQEDnews

KQEDnews These bulbs will eventually die. Halogens are a fire hazard and incandescent is inefficient. LED or bust.

KQEDnews California taking freedoms away daily!
