The government says the National Health Insurance Bill published last year aims to provide equitable quality health services for all South Africans.

JOHANNESBURG – South Africa's government will not be reckless in implementing national health insurance, but will rather apply it in an incremental manner until the entire country is covered by 2025, President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Monday.

Reception has been mixed, with critics saying it is an underhanded way for the government to nationalise health care and will have disastrous effects. On Monday, Ramaphosa said public hearings held around the country had showed overall support for the government plan. "Participants have made a number of proposals and have spoken about their views on National Health Insurance, personal experiences of illness, trauma, disability and suffering – and the difficulties they have had in accessing health care when they need it," he said in a weekly newsletter.

It did not even work in Venezuela......their people laying in the street dying after there Medical system colapse....you talk about using the country resources, they had oil and it collapse....Rhamaphosa is really the most stupid person in this country ParliamentofRSA

There is only one certainty about the NHI... billions will be stolen and dodgy deals will be made. NHI

Yea right... Pull the other one..

But if we create jobs, the public will be able to affort health care?

This will fail dismally. If you want to improve our health system , improve the current one there is actually nothing wrong with it if run by committed people . Except for Private who charging exorbitantly & getting away with due to poor governance.

If hospitals are in a state of disaster, pension funds are already used to bailout failed SOEs, where do you think the BILLIONS required for NHI will come from? As far as I know, the ANC still owes billions to Austrian conglomerate Kapsch over failed etolls system.

DrZweliMkhize Hon Mkhize lets be honest. . . Will this benefit the average South African in the current state of our health care or is it something that will take Billions in expenditure? Who wins? Discovery Momentum_za Our_DA PresidencyZA jsteenhuisen VFPlus

These idiots also say they fight against corruption. Did they initiate one trial by now ?
