The Gauteng Electricity Movement says electricity is a basic right and they are not prepared to pay for it.they receive from Eskom are an attempt by government to recoup monies that have been misappropriated through corruption.They are demanding among others, an end to load shedding, scrapping of prepaid electricity meters and for all homes who haveThey deny that this Tuesday’s shutdown was a flop. They say they were forced to retreat due to police intimidation.
In Soweto alone, residents are said to owe Eskom as much as R18 billion, with many residents illegally connected.Almost 200 000 households have prepaid meters. Eskom says 60% of these households are guilty of some form of tampering.
Switch them off, simple. Why should some pay and not others? It costs money to generate power, so cough up!
One of the most stupidest ideas ever. If you don't pay-- be prepared to get cut off and go without.This is bull that only some of us users are paying. If those Soweto parasites had been paying since long ago, they would have worked it into their budget by now, instead of DSTV.

We as a country must realise that we can't live a life of free handouts. It's very costly to generate and then distribute electricity across the country. The above is equal to asking the lady selling sandwiches to start giving it free and to ensure that it's available everyday.
Why are they not imprisoned coz they are publicly planning to destroy our already dying economy.
If they are not willing to pay, then they must light up candles, we can't have a society that wants freebies...

We buy electricity and we r taxed, R50 electricity gives u 38 units, R12 goes to tax, but Eskom is doing this to us. Its clear that in 1994 we only voted for corruption. Our leaders are in & out of courts due to it. Plz president make change bcoz we voted for not this.
It is simple, Eskom must cut off electricity and leave them dark. There is nothing for mahala. So they can pay Dstv and not essential services. What a lost nation indeed.

What is this 'Gauteng Electricity Movement' ?. It reeks of socialist influence and instigators. The intentions of such shutdowns and disruptions are in fact always to cause more harm than good. Their leaders and organizers should be identified and 'dealt' with in someway.
