Normally, spring is this trucking company's busiest time of year, transporting strawberries and lettuce. But now, the trucks are sitting idle. 'The produce is available, but because of these restaurant chains [being] closed down, there are no buyers.'

If business doesn't return to normal in the next month or so, he says the trucking company will have to shut down., anxious to restart their economies after weeks of lockdowns and layoffs because of the coronavirus pandemic.

One contract has been put on hold and the firm had to furlough 35 of its 250 employees. They've since been rehired after the company received a loan through the federal government's Paycheck Protection Program, but the firm is no longer bringing in revenue, says CEO Antwanye Ford. "People don't feel safe. Some of our staff is concerned about reopening the business, and 'What does it mean for me to come into an environment where I'm around other people?'"Ford says.

There is no 'normal' until there is: 1. Wide spread 'herd immunity' (concept which MAGA idiots don't understand). 2. Fast and effective treatment and/or vaccination. To get to 1 safely, need MASSIVE & FREQUENT testing, which Orange-in-Chief keep screwing up.

Maybe Trump can force them back to work by cutting off benefits. The GOP's one go-to move.

Then print some stimulus money and pay small trucking companies and owner-operators to haul it to foodbanks.

Capitalism kills.

NPR, I cannot stesss this enough...you is stinky ass

The- y'all are bad at your jobs.

Another shitty article. Did none of your crack reporters think to ask if the food could be distributed to other ppl?

America's truckers are doing great at keeping grocery stores stocked. They are part of the reason we aren't going hungry even though, for political purposes, some in positions of power want us to. We know who they are.

THERE ARE BUYERS! SIMPLY DRIVE PAST THE RESTAURANT TO THE MARKET!

Donate it to food banks and use it as a tax write off
