Major employers say suspending the entry of foreign workers will hurt — not help — the economic recovery. 'For us to remain globally competitive, we need the best and brightest. That's been our secret sauce,' a president of a tech trade group says.

Green card and visa processing had already been slowed considerably by the coronavirus pandemic, which has disrupted operations at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world.

Critics, however, say that thinking does not reflect the reality of a dynamic economy. Josselin Castillo is a government affairs liaison at Americans For Prosperity, which gets funding from the conservative Koch network. The group argued against these visa restrictions. Immigrant advocates say the White House is using the coronavirus pandemic to make immigration policy changes that it couldn't get from a divided Congress. The Trump administration has also blocked most migrants arriving at the southern border from seeking asylum.

"We do not believe the legal justification for the proclamation to be legally sound," said Jason Oxman, the president of ITI, an information industry trade group.

say it louder for the bigots in the back

NPR kissing big tech companies’s ass DefundNPR

Indeed.... anti immigration policies sacrifice the economy for political pandering & bigotry.

Many employers hire foreign workers not bc they actually need themor they do better work but bc they can pay them far,far less then legally required.

It is hatred and cruelty, feeding the ignorant racists who step near

Lots of bullshit. I’ve worked with many H-1B visa holders in tech over the years. They are fine, but have no special tech skills that are unavailable in the US workforce. They are just willing to work for a lot less money. And are liaisons back to many off shore workers.

These articles make it sound like the H1b's are all hard science PhD's. USCIS data shows that most are basic IT workers hired by companies who offer IT/BP outsourcing. 70+% are from India.

Then raise the best and brightest in our local schools

I mean, this is so blindingly obvious, but populists plow on with banning immigrants from their country regardless

pMy fifth oint is hungry for adventure

Good, major employers NEVER gave a damn about American workers. If the don't like this, its a sign that its good for the working man.

Yeah, we know. Someone want to tell the idiots in charge. Donald Trump is running this country into the ground. He literally has bankrupted United States single-handedly. Everybody laughed, thought it was a big joke when I said Trump was going to bankrupt the United States.

Don’t be fooled. Tech companies know America’s B&B are simply more expensive, not that they don’t exist or are impossible to cultivate. There is no incentive for US companies to want or contribute to an educated local workforce.

Another foolish move from Trump.

We don't need them bringing more of the virus into the country. Maybe different mutations.

What garbage...

We want American workers to be successful. Quit replacing them with foreign workers. Nourish, educate, and hire Americans, not foreigners!

320 million people in this country and you can’t find the “best and brightest” here to make the secret sauce? What does that say about your tech trade group?

BS. CEOs are only ones that benefit. American worker gets hurt.

Oh bs. They want cheaper labor. STEM students abound in the US.

Including medicine and scientific research. Resist

There’s an exception to Canadians, you know, coz most of us aren’t brown

This administration has given away our ability to compete in international trade and crippled this country’s industries Especially during our disastrous handling of a worldwide pandemic, by all means, strip our tech industries’ ability to employ some of the leading world talent

criticaltnk This is great move by President Trump!! Ban all NEW immigration!! NPR has been quite restless since EO came out!! NPR dint do shit when Indian GC approved immigrants have to wait 150 trs for GC!!! So when all countries r impacted! One article everyday!! s386

Trumps usual process: Ready, fire, aim.

Trump doesn't listen to 'the industry'. He listens to people who pay for rooms at his hotel. He listens to people who pay 'donations' to his reelection campaign. He listens to people who can hack the elections in his favor. THAT's who he listens to.

They want to depress wages. This hurts Americans of all ethnic backgrounds.

“Best and brightest” is debatable, but “cheapest” is not. H1B

Does 45 understand how many also work in healthcare as doctors and nurses? That is idiotic during this pandemic!

Let it hurt!! MaGA lol

Who's been right on the economy more--Trump or NPR?

tRump is mad at high tech, limiting visas will only push tech to go abroad. Bad move.

In other words, Americans aren’t the brightest?
