Twice a day for more than half a century, the Wilson family milked cows in their dairy at Calico Creek near Gympie. Now, owner Martin Wilson has called it quits and he's one of many leaving the industry.

His son recently left the industry.

"The social pressures are so hard these days and there's some good jobs around where they can get really good money," he said. "It's deeply concerning, particularly when some of the processors are bringing milk up from Victoria," Mr Morgan said. By June 1, milk processors are required to publish the prices they will be offering farmers for new contracts in July, and the ACCC has moved from educating processors about the code to enforcing it."There's been a culture change in the industry, whereas in the past, processors on occasions didn't even release their prices before June 30," Mr Keogh said.

I don't understand how the dairy industry can be so fkd .Is it the contracts they have to sign with the supermarket chains ?We saw during covid , importing from overseas just because it's a few cents cheaper is not always the best answer .Maybe the new Ag minister can sort it ?

. Milk is our biggest export. Protein is a winner. But these farmers just don't want to pay workers a fair wage. .

Perfect opportunity for uncle Barnaby to become a new special envoy. Only one problem. I think the position of Dairy Queen has already been taken. So much for the Nationals coming to the rescue. More interested in mining & CSG then to care about actual farmers.

China will buy it.

Is this anything to do with plant food pusher Bill Gates visit to Australia during lockdown to speak to Aussie farmers. Is he paying off Aussie meat and milk producers to retire and reduce milk and meat 🤫
