The city of Mesa is considering making major changes in the future development of drive-thru restaurants.

Mesa's planning department held a public meeting on Nov. 1 to offer those in the development community and residents a chance to ask questions and talk through concerns on the new amendments considered. The major changes include:When there are two drive-thru facilities adjacent to each other, a third drive-thru facility may not be placed within 750 feet of either of those two facilities

Under the proposed amendments, at the four corners of one intersection, it would cap the number of drive-thrus at eight, said"You would have the potential of having a drive-thru at each corner of the intersection, a drive-thru right next to each one of those pad sites and then [past another] 750 feet, you could have a third one [on one side of the street]," saidsaid the push to make changes came from residents who want to limit the noise and impact on traffic that comes from large...

"The proposed amendments do not ban or prevent drive-thru facilities from developing in the city of Mesa. The city’s goal for these amendments has always been to work with various stakeholders, including the development community and residents to continue to improve the city’s urban form," Appiah wrote in a statement to the Business Journal on Nov. 1.
