Mining company Bacchus Resources told the ABC and residents last week that it had withdrawn its licence application, but exploration maps made publicly available this week reveal its application has been amended, not withdrawn.

abc.net.au/news/nt-bacchus-resources-mining-exploration-licence-adelaide-river/102224000A gold mining company has been accused of "deceiving" residents of a small Northern Territory town, after it partially amended a proposed exploration licence less than 24 hours after it had said its application had been withdrawn.

Resident Annika Schweiger did not trust the word of Bacchus executives when they said the exploration application had been withdrawn. According to the Northern Territory government's tenure of geoscience information, Bacchus amended its application on Thursday, April 6, reducing the size of the exploration area by 41 square kilometres, including a number of rural properties on Strickland Road.

"They could've quite easily worded it saying that 'we're just removing a few blocks', and that would've been very clear," Ms Schweiger said.Representatives of Bacchus Resources did not respond to the ABC's questions nor to offer for an interview.Mining Minister Nicole Manison said it was not uncommon for mining companies to remove objecting landowners from proposed mineral exploration areas.

Ms Schweiger and her partner, Reed Fisher, own properties south of the Adelaide River township, both of which are covered by Bacchus' proposed mineral exploration.
