Manchin questions China's colossal investment in West Virginia: 'Something doesn't make sense here'

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is raising alarm bells about an $83.7 billion investment in his home state pledged by China's state-owned energy giant.

The deal was announced in 2017 as part of $250 billion in business agreements reached between the U.S. and China in connection with President Donald Trump's visit to the country.

maddezmom Don’t be McConnell, Joe.

They do like coal

Who other than the Trump government would sign a huge contract not even knowing what is planned?

China is looking long-term at natural resources - natural gas, coal, petroleum, timber, salt, etc....and of course they want some of that sweet Appalachian ginseng!

How much to buy the entire state?

$83B? Wow Republicans are getting more expensive to buy every year.....

Makes complete sense.

Not to worry. After they make a $3 million campaign contribution to Joe and the GOP, everything will be okay.

China is hitting you right what is hurts Manchin, and you are on the outside looking in

The misguided policies of conservatives have left WV just one step up from a third world country, economically. China is treating them like all the other debt slaves they're acquiring. If we adopted policies that helped common people and not coal billionaires, they'd go away.

The check is in the mail
