Energy companies are urging the government to give divestment powers to the courts rather than Treasurer Josh Frydenberg, in a final bid to soften "big stick" laws.

Industry giants, including AGL, Origin and Energy Australia, have argued the legislation will not lower energy prices. The energy retailers believe the laws are unnecessary and will discourage investment in new generation needed to bring prices down.

JoshFrydenberg Electricity supply already control by private companies. There’s danger Electricity might be controlled by eg totalitarian China. Government should have the ability to regulate utility services - for its people’s and the country’s safety. Not just price.
