Elon Musk stands to get even richer if Tesla’s market cap tops $100 billion

Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Elon Musk may do another dance if the electric car maker’s stock rises a few more dollars and stays there a while, as he stands to receive stock options that could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

With 180.24 million shares outstanding, as of Oct. 21, a $100 billion market cap would be reached at a stock price of $554.80, or 3.1% above Tuesday’s record closing price of $537.92. On Wednesday, Tesla’s stock fell 1% in midday trading, implying a market cap to $96.0 billion. The stock has hit a string of records since mid-December, the most recent on Tuesday, when it closed at an all-time high of $537.92. It traded as high as $547.41 on Tuesday, an intraday record.
