On Sunday’s American Idol, the judges threw the remaining contestants a curveball in the second round of Hollywood Week.

. Rather than forming into groups as they had in the past seasons, they would team up for duets.

The two had great chemistry and even better voices, and the judges had no problem advancing the two.Duets saw the formation of potential lifelong friendships. Soul and blues singers Jovin Webb and Faith Bechnel bonded over being from Louisiana.

Not all friendships ended happily ever after, though. Dubbed Soul Libre, roommates Robert Taylor and Tito Rey were forced to say goodbye after a bizarre rendition of “Say So” by PJ Morton and Jojo left only Taylor in the competition.Partners Peyton Aldridge and Madison Paige got off to a bad start when Aldridge skipped rehearsals to buy chicken wings from a gas station, forcing Paige to track him down.

“When you walk out onstage you fake it; and if you have a partner with you, you never leave your partner alone,” judge Lionel Richie said. “You came on that stage together, you will walk off that stage together.” Also performing “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” to great success were Aliana Jester and Yzthasinger, calling themselves Match.
